Located on the valley down-slope facing a major national park, this 25,000 square foot estate project is approached via a winding two-stage motorway, with a vertical ascent of eighty feet from the site entry near the valley floor to the arrival court.
The primary structure with attendant out-buildings rides the ridge where the glacial watershed splits along its descent to the valley below. In this art-filled environment meant to entertain large numbers of people comfortably, scale is managed by creating a diversity of smaller spaces and landscaped areas within the 65,000 square feet of domain, which surrounds the architecture.
The design goal of this project was to create a fully developed architecture at dynamic integration with the natural environment. In every respect the concern for fine materials pervades, in order to create a finely detailed, environment for living and entertaining: an estate and legacy-grade construct, whose central defining feature is the living gallery in nature. The concept of the gallery home creates here a discipline of order and material neutrality. This estate, will continue evolving to meet the changing needs of its principals.
